Fernando Alonso left McLaren team.

Plenipotentiaries of McLaren’s team announced on Friday that Fernando Alonso, who had won a Formula One race and is the country's first champion, after a stormy season with the British team left McLaren. He had two years remaining on his contract with the British based team but today Alonso and McLaren reached an agreement that allows the Spaniard to leave the team without having to pay anything for rescinding his contract.

"Since I was a boy I had always wanted to drive for McLaren, but sometimes in life things do not work out," Alonso said in a statement.

"
(We) want to wish Fernando all the best for the future," McLaren team chief Ron Dennis said. "He is a great driver but for some reason the combination of (our team) and Fernando has not really worked out, and in the end we reached a stage where none of us could find a way to move forward."

Sports car 'has great features'

A new sports car is to be released by Nissan as it looks to offset the consumer movement towards European brands.

The fresh version of the GT-R model has a number of improved features, such as 3.8-litre engine, reports the International Herald Tribune.

Such a product will aim to entice customers back from imports such as Ferrari, Porsche and Aston Martin.

In Japan as a whole, sales of cars are in decline, with a fall reported in all but one of the last 27 months, the Japan Automobile Association claimed.

One car-lover, Ryuhei Sukegawa, a physician who is 45, told the publication that other car-makers have an emphasis on style.

"European sports cars have a sophistication, tradition and style that Japanese makers don't have," he said.

Nissan released details of the new car as part of the Tokyo Motor Show earlier this week, with domestic sales likely to begin later in the year.

According to the firm, this is an important time for the automotive industry, as environmentally-friendly products are needed.

There are other sports car experiences available from Red Letter Days for those with a desire for fast speeds.

Volvo C30 T5.

Volvo is not only all-new C30 is a 2-door, 4-seat sportswagon powered by a 2.5 liter, all-aluminum, DOHC turbocharged 5-cylinder engine, hooked up to a 6-speed close-ratio manual transmission, that comes in two trims, Version 1.0 ($23,395) and Version 2.0 ($26,395) with a large 4-wheel disc brakes feature electronic brake distribution and electronic brake assistance plus ABS.

Volvo C30 T5. has other design tweaks that hint at fun-to-driveness (bearing in mind that too many buyers never see below the surface) are the low dashboard line and the textured black plastic lower valances, wheelarches and protuberant sills. If you have the Sport version you get 18in wheels instead of 17s, plus more prominent sills and spoilers painted – like the arches – in either body colour or a contrast. One such contrast has pearlescent white body paint and metallic brown edges, much like the C30 ‘concept’ car (created long after the real thing was signed off) seen at January’s Detroit show.
Now this model is usual offer at all Volvo dealers.

Future Flying Cars.

The idea of flying car is not fresh at all. But usually we take it as an element of future, isn’t it? This summer, graduate students at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have tryed to get an idea aloft that has intrigued people for decades: the flying car. So Transition flying car is promiced to be realizied by 2009-2010.
No complete prototype exists yet, but the company has a one-fifth scale wind tunnel model (along with computer simulations) and will use the $30,000 from the Lemelson prize to build something to show off at the Oshkosh show.

"We have a lot of confidence that if the interest is there, we can deliver this product," Dietrich said. "There is a huge amount of general interest, but the question is, is there a market for it?"
The Transition is designed for 100- to 500-mile jumps. It will carry two people and luggage on a single tank of premium unleaded gas. It will also come with an electric calculator (to help fine-tune weight distribution), airbags, aerodynamic bumpers and of course a GPS (Global Positioning System) navigation unit.

The company hopes to eventually have the vehicle classified so that it can be piloted with a light sport aircraft license. "We have a lot of confidence that if the interest is there, we can deliver this product," Dietrich said. "There is a huge amount of general interest, but the question is, is there a market for it?"

The Truth About Cars.

It became known that Chrysler is going to recall Sebring and Avenger because these cars have a door latch problem that could potentially lead to unbelted passengers being dumped into the road during a crash. Dealers are instructed to fix both front doors with a "secondary retention feature." A fan motor on 102,042 Avengers and Sebrings can apparently catch fire when coming into contact with engine coolant. The recall affects both 2007 and 2008 models, and owners should expect to receive notification next month to replace either the wiring or the motor itself.
Owners of 2008 AWD Avenger will either get longer letters or another letter entirely, informed of another problem with the cars. Both recall campaigns are expected to begin sometime this month.

According to the USAToday, the new Avenger has had its share of engineering issues, something that the publication allowed Chrysler to respond to in depth within its review. As if being publicly humiliated by one of the largest papers in the land wasn't enough, yesterday's duo of recalls is being followed by yet another safety issue plaguing both the Dodge Avenger and the Chrysler Sebring.

James Bond again with Bently.

The fact is that whether played by Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan or any of the other Bond actors, Secret Agent 007 always drives best fast cars. The models he used are: Bentley, Aston Martin, Lotus, BMW, Ford Motor Company, Saab, Rolls-Royce, General Motors, American Motors, Mercedes-Benz, other passenger cars and vehicles. In Sebastian Faulks’ forthcoming new James Bond novel, Devil May Care, Britain’s top secret agent will conduct his missions in a Bentley. "Despite many of the films portraying him with an Aston Martin, Bond's first choice of car was a Bentley, so that is what he will be driving in my book," he said.

James Bond's Bently 1985

Nick Nguyen observes that the James Bond movies feature many brand-name consumer items, in addition to cars. From a commercial perspective, he suggests, product-placement fees are welcomed by film studios facing increasing costs to produce such movies.

But 007's vehicles, he believes, have taken on a more crucial role than other products in the movies' popular and financial success. "Bond's recent cars, especially those driven by Pierce Brosnan, serve a commercial objective rather than a narrative purpose," he explains. For moviegoers, "the whole point of buying these cars is to exploit their specific association to the Bond films, wherein the car becomes the ultimate commodification of the Bond experience outside of the cinema and on the roads."
